Update on attacks on NorthEast Indian Workers in Seshadripuram, Bangalore & APPEAL FOR SUPPORT

WHAT IS DONE: Seshadripuram Police have formally registered the case against goondas Karan, Santosh, Ramesh and Manju with Indian Penal Code Sections 328 (Voluntarily causing hurt, bailable), 384 (Extortion, non-bailable) , 506 (Criminal intimidation, bailable) read with 34 (done by several persons in furtherance of common intention). We have got the copy of the FIR (First Information Report) yesterday.

Rini Ralte, Tejaswini, Bharati (all from Peace and Solidarity Forum), two of the victims and myself met Mr. Dsouza (DCP – North East nodal officer for Karnataka Police) yesterday evening and explained the facts. We will be lodging a formal complaint with all the details about the police non-cooperation today.

We along with Subhankar (member of Peace and Solidarity Forum, of Assam-origin) met with representatives of DYFI (Democratic Youth Federation of India) and decided to visit our NorthEast friends living in Seshadripuram area on Saturday (27th October, 2012) evening a around 5PM, leading to formation of a NorthEast Indian Support Group in the area. The support group will consist of representatives of NorthEast Indians, Peace and Solidarity Forum, DYFI and other local supporters (groups, individuals, lawyers etc.) to support NorthEast Indians in times of crisis and to protect their rights in general.

We need your support in to assist in times of crisis, spreading information about the NorthEast Helpline and its activists, to build solidarity between NorthEast Indians and other Bangalore citizens, to follow-up police cases, to document incidents of violence and harassment, to mobilize resources for continuation of the work, to form local support groups and to spread awareness about NorthEast Indians.
